THE CANADIAN PROFESSIONAL INSURANCE BROKER PROGRAM
The Canadian Professional Insurance Broker (CPIB) program is a senior designation designed to challenge the excellence of Property and Casualty insurance brokers. CPIB is a university level of study with strict admission prerequisites set at either the CAIB or CIP designation.

It is offered in three streams, Personal Lines, Commercial Lines and Brokerage Management.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
To earn the CPIB designation, students must complete the three mandatory courses and any three of the elective courses in that discipline. The program’s courses may also be taken individually for general interest or Continuing Education (CE) credits.

Graduates’ use of the CPIB designation, as with all IBAC designations, will be restricted to licensed property and casualty insurance brokers who are members or associate members of their provincial or regional brokers association. Non-members are welcome to take the CPIB program and will receive a Certificate of Completion upon graduation.

THE QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for the CPIB designation must be, at the time of registering for the examinations, employed by a property and casualty insurance brokerage that is a member in good standing of a member association that is and continues to be a member of IBAC. The right to use and maintain the CPIB designation shall only continue if the membership status is maintained.

PROGRAM OUTLINE
The CPIB course is offered in three formats, designed to accommodate the different needs of students:

1. Group Discussion
Classroom groups emphasize active participation and are a forum for the sharing of ideas. An experienced broker or another expert in the field of study will be the facilitator.

2. Immersion Courses
Immersion courses offer a more in-depth training experience for the student in a condensed time frame. An experienced broker or another expert in the field of study will be the facilitator.

3. Self-Study
The self-study format is geared to students who want a more flexible schedule or are in a remote location.  An additional text in the form of a student self-study guide is provided.

PROGRAM COURSES
Brokers must complete 6 courses (3 mandatory and 3 elective) in their stream of specialization in order to obtain the designation.
